HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - U.S. Reps. Joe Courtney and Jahana Hayes added their names Friday to those supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
The announcements mean all five members of Connecticut’s all-Democratic delegation are now on the record saying they will vote in favor of impeachment.
Both U.S. Reps. John Larson and Rosa DeLauro announced Tuesday they will vote in favor of the two charges: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. A spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes told The Associated Press earlier this month, before the specific articles had been announced, that the congressman would vote to impeach the president.
Courtney, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that he was especially concerned over the 55-day suspension of military assistance to Ukraine.
“During that time, the Los Angeles Times reported that 25 Ukrainian soldiers lost their lives in combat. The gravity of this feckless decision is clear and stunning,” he wrote.
Hayes said in a statement that she had not wanted to comment until she had a chance to review the articles as drafted.
“As I listened to the testimony, I became more concerned about the actions of the president,” she wrote. “While some may argue these actions do not merit impeachment, to do nothing and normalize this behavior would be a dereliction of my oath of office. ”
