RENO, Nev. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Lake Tahoe region beginning Friday afternoon, with more than a foot (30 centimeters) of snow possible on the mountain tops by Saturday.
A series of weather systems is expected to bring rain and snow to the region through the weekend.
The advisory at Tahoe runs from 4 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday at elevations above 6,500 feet (1,981 meters).
The service says a couple of inches (5 cm) of snow is possible at lake level with up to 5 inches (13 cm) above 6,500 feet (1,981 meters). Up to 10 inches (25 cm) is expected above 7,000 feet (2,133 meters) with as much as 15 inches (38 cm) possible on the tops of the mountains surrounding the lake.
