PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police have released the name of the man struck and killed while trying to cross Interstate 95 on foot earlier this week.

Gregory Perez, 30, of Providence, was attempting to cross the highway at about 2 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck and killed by a northbound vehicle, police said.

Perez’s vehicle broke down in the area and police said they do not think he was trying to harm himself, authorities told WPRI-TV.

The driver who struck Perez stayed at the scene and police do not anticipate bringing charges. The driver was also brought to the hospital as a precaution.

Perez worked at HomeSmart Professionals Real Estate in Warwick. “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Gregory Perez, a fellow HomeSmart Associate of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away early this morning in a tragic auto accident,” the company posted on its Facebook page.
