MONROE, Ga. (AP) - A former Georgia judge was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for having a sexual online relationship with who he believed was a 14-year-old girl and trying to entice her into sexual acts.
George Randolph “Randy” Jeffery had actually been talking with the girl’s father, who was himself molesting her while posing as her online, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office statement cited by the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It’s unclear if the girl’s father has been charged. His name wasn’t immediately released.
In October 2018, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation alerted the FBI that Jeffery, 59, may have been in a sexual online relationship with a teen. Authorities learned Jeffery had chatted with who he thought was the girl for months that year, messaging her from his church and an office near the Division of Family and Children Services building in Covington, where he often worked while serving as a special assistant attorney general.
They exchanged nude photographs, including those of other minors, discussed sex acts and talked about how the person he thought was a girl had been molested by her father. Unknown to Jeffery, he was actually chatting with the girl’s father, who was still molesting her and was the one actually sending over the pornographic photos to Jeffrey, the statement says.
Attorney General Chris Carr has said Jeffery was appointed to serve as a special assistant attorney general representing the state Department of Human Services Division of Child Support Services in Walton and Newton counties. He was fired after his arrest in November 2018.
He pleaded guilty this fall. He also was sentenced to 10 years’ supervised probation upon his release and will have to register as a sex offender.
