The Miami Dolphins’ Twitter account called this play “the GOAT fake field goal,” but the formation the team lined up in on fourth and goal didn’t look anything like a field goal attempt.
Dolphins punter Matt Haack took a snap and shoveled a pass to kicker Jason Sanders, who reported as an eligible receiver, and Miami converted the weirdest gadget play of the NFL season to date.

The formation — with five players wide to the left and four wide to the right, leaving Haack behind a lone snapper — evoked the time the Colts attempted a “swinging gate” play against the Patriots in 2015, a play that ended up far less successful than Miami’s trick play Sunday.
The 2-9 Dolphins still trailed the Eagles 21-14 at halftime, but this touchdown alone was worth the price of admission for any Miami fan who came to the game.
