CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fabian Moreau snagged an interception deep in Carolina Panthers territory and returned it to the 1-yard line, leading to the Washington Redskins’ first touchdown of the day.

A 2-point conversion would have tied the game, but the initial call of a completion to Jeremy Sprinkle was overturned, so the Redskins trail the Panthers 14-12 at halftime.

The Panthers raced out to a 14-0 lead with easy touchdown drives on their first two possessions. Curtis Samuel and DJ Moore caught red-zone touchdown passes to cap off some quick drives, and Washington’s defense looked confused at times.

But in the second quarter, down 14-6, the Redskins forced two three-and-outs and pinned Carolina deep in their own territory. Moreau picked off Kyle Allen and nearly turned it into a touchdown himself. Derrius Guice scored from one yard out on the Redskins’ first try.

Earlier in the game, Guice had the highlight of the game with this 60-yard dash that set up Washington’s first field goal:

The Redskins made one final drive in the last two minutes of the half, but Sprinkle drew an offensive pass interference in the end zone on third down, pushing back a potential field goal. Dustin Hopkins’ 49-yard attempt was then blocked by Kyle Love.
