BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The University of Vermont will be getting $6.6 million in federal funding to create one of three rural centers around the country on addiction.
Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy announced the funding on Thursday. He says UVM, along with the University of Vermont Medical Center and other statewide partners, “will be able to build on their innovative work to combat addiction and apply those lessons to rural communities around the country.”
Vermont has established a nationally recognized hub and spoke system comprised of regional treatment centers and clinicians who treat opioid use disorders in their own practices.
Leahy says the UVM center will be focused on identifying, disseminating and implementing the hub and spoke, community reinforcement approach to address the opioid epidemic in rural communities.
