MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - A grand jury in a Mississippi county is recommending officials hire more deputies.

The Lauderdale County Grand Jury reviews county buildings and other functions every other month.

WTOK-TV reports that the latest grand jury suggested more deputies and better pay for the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Billy Sollie says his agency asked the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors for more officers, but they were told the county does not have the money in the budget.

The grand jury also suggested the county may need a new jail, but Sollie says he needs more deputies first.
