Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Thursday dismissed President Trump’s calls for Republicans to move to a “new News Outlet” other than Fox News and reminded him that “we don’t work for you.”
In a series of tweets, Mr. Trump criticized the conservative-leaning network for covering the Democratic debates, dealing out personal dings to Fox’s Sandra Smith, Juan Williams, “low ratings Shep Smith” and Donna Brazile.
“The New @FoxNews is letting millions of GREAT people down! We have to start looking for a new News Outlet. Fox isn’t working for us anymore!” the president tweeted Wednesday.
During the closing monologue of his show, Mr. Cavuto disregarded Mr. Trump’s claim, saying Fox News gives him “pretty fair coverage” and reminding the president: “We don’t work for you.”
“I think the president watches Fox. I also think he’s getting sick of Fox, which is weird because I think he gets pretty fair coverage on Fox, but the president making clear to fact-check him is to be all but dead to him and his legion of supporters, who let me know, in no uncertain terms, I am either with him totally or I am a never-Trumper fully,” he said.
“First of all, Mr. President, we don’t work for you. I don’t work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just cover you. Call balls and strikes. Our job is to keep score, not settle scores,” Mr. Cavuto said.
“In my case, to report the economic numbers when they’re good and when they’re bad. But when the markets are soaring and with her tumbling. When trade talks looking they’re coming together, and when they look like falling apart. It’s called being fair and balanced, Mr. President,” Mr. Cavuto said.
“You’re entitled to your point of view, Mr. President, but you’re not entitled to your own set of facts,” the host finished.
