COLFAX, Wash. (AP) - A 31-year-old woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a 55-year-old northern Idaho man.

The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports that Ashley Myers was sentenced Friday in Whitman County District Court after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Myers is a transient who was arrested in September after police found Kenneth L. Allen of Coeur d’Alene dead in a vehicle Myers was driving.

Court records say Whitman County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene Sept. 28 and found Myers holding a baseball bat and saying she had shot a man. Officers later found Allen in a nearby vehicle, dead and with bullet wounds to his head.

Records show Myers told officers she shot Allen because he “murdered her daughter yesterday.”

Officials say Myers’ daughter was safe and living with a relative.
