Another month, another award for a dominant Nationals starter.
Stephen Strasburg was named National League Pitcher of the Month for July, one month after Max Scherzer’s commanding June earned him the same award.
Strasburg went 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 44 strikeouts in July. He did not allow a home run for the entire month and maintained a 0.92 WHIP.
Perhaps the most crazy stat of his month: Strasburg finished July with more RBI as a batter (six) than earned runs allowed (four). He achieved this thanks to a three-hit, 5-RBI performance at the plate that gave himself some run support in a July 18 win at Atlanta.
Before dealing with a back injury that’s caused him to miss much of July, Max Scherzer won pitcher of the month in June by going 6-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 68 strikeouts.
