SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Salt Lake City Council has allocated $34.5 million in funding to upgrade the city’s parks, landmarks and other public spaces.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the council announced funding on Tuesday for more than 30 community projects throughout the city.
With the funds the city intends to convert the historic Fisher Carriage House into a nature center and address health and safety concerns at Liberty Park’s Seven Canyons Fountain, among other projects.
Residents frequently waded in the fountain during hotter months, but it was shut down in 2017 after health officials deemed it unsanitary.
Additional funding is planned for bathrooms and concessions at Pioneer Park and to plant a community orchard in a vacant lot.
City staff said the rest of the money went toward bond and debt repayments.
