OPINION:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a bit of a reputation as being the, shall we say, dim bulb in the room.
So in that respect, good news — no harm, no foul, no reputation lost from this latest video she cut, calling out the dangers of climate change while overcooking macaroni and cheese.
And the hits keep on coming. Here’s more good news: Mediaite, thank goodness, got busy with its stenography so nobody has to listen to the squeaky socialist’s voice as she rails, like wow, like right down the rabbit hole.
The video opens with Ocasio-Cortez fielding a question from an Instagram fan that went like this: How to live the good life while also living the climate clean life? Ahh, a question for the ages. Happily, America has Ocasio-Cortez.
“I understand this completely,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Even while I was on vacation I woke up in the middle of the night at 3:30 in the morning just concerned about climate change. I’m 29 years old, I really struggle sometimes with the idea of how to be a policymaker and potentially have a family in the time of climate change.”
As if climates, until the era of Ocasio-Cortez, what, never changed?
Anyhow, that’s all typical Ocasio-Cortez stuff. The type of anti-baby-making stuff she’s already made known, the type of argument that says it’s not fair to have babies when they’re just going to die from weather-related chaos within the next 12 years. Or sooner.
But this next bit is new. And sadly, not improved.
“I’m scared about disease,” she said, as Mediaite noted. “There’s a lot of — there are a lot of things frozen in the tundra. There are a lot of diseases that are frozen in some of these glaciers that scientists fear that there is a potential that a lot of diseases could escape these melted glaciers, things that were frozen for thousands of years, and that they’re going to get into our water, and that humans could contract them, and they’re going to be diseases that are thousands of years old that have vectors that we are not prepared for, that we have never seen.”
The vectors in the tundras beneath the glaciers are gonna give us diseases. Say scientists. Says Ocasio-Cortez.
Or something like that.
It could be something different.
But either way, it’s the same.
With Ocasio-Cortez — it’s always the same. No matter what’s going on in the world, it’s always due to climate change.
But on this latest rail, even Boston University is shaking its head.
Even Boston University is going, stop — please, for the love of God, just stop.
“[These] giants viruses,” once thawed, could quickly become “infectious,” she warned. But even if that doesn’t happen — “even if there are no diseases frozen at all in these glaciers,” she went on — there are still the mosquitoes.
“You have diseases that are spread by mosquitoes, and now mosquitoes are starting to fly further north that carry diseases like malaria, and a whole slew of other things,” she said.
Not to mention that “food supply” problem, you know, where the sun shines on the farmers’ lands. Or something like that.
The video is 35 minutes. The message could’ve been summed in seconds. And it’s the same message Ocasio-Cortez always brings: Human activity is killing the planet. Only government can save it.
Of course, nothing beats a warning that the frozen tundras are coming.
