GREENVILLE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama interstate was shut down in both directions for several hours and a nearby high school closed for the day as a precaution after a crash involving a semitrailer carrying hazardous materials.
Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn said Friday morning that northbound lanes of Interstate 65 had reopened in the Greenville area. He said the southbound lanes remained closed.
Montgomery Fire/Rescue says the truck was carrying 55-gallon drums of Cyclohexanol.
Lovvorn said on social media that the hazardous material was contained and that cleanup was progressing faster than initially expected. He said Greenville High School was closed as a precaution, due to its proximity to the crash.
Greenville is 45 miles (72 kilometers) southwest of Montgomery.
