NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Republican representatives have elected a new caucus chairman amid a long period of turmoil and turnover inside the GOP-dominated House.
The House GOP caucus on Thursday elected Rep. Jeremy Faison of Cosby to the position. The position became open after Rep. Cameron Sexton was nominated to become the next House speaker.
House members have worked to restore peace inside the chamber ever since House Speaker Glen Casada became embroiled in scandals involving explicit text messages about women. Casada eventually stepped aside from the position earlier this month when members of the GOP caucus voted they no longer had confidence in his leadership.
Sexton will be formally elected by the House on Friday during a special legislative session.
Faison says he looks forward to helping raise money for the caucus.
