LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The attorney for former a Wyoming football player Carl Granderson contends “manifest injustice” occurred when a judge rejected a plea agreement and sentenced Granderson to jail time.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports Granderson has been held at the Albany County Detention Center since July 11, when District Judge Tori Kricken sentenced him to six months in jail after he pleaded no contest to single counts of unlawful contact and sexual battery. The charges stemmed from an incident involving two female UW students that occurred at his off-campus apartment in November.
Laramie lawyer Megan Goetz has filed a motion to allow Granderson to withdraw his pleas and has requested the court vacate his sentence and grant him a trial. Details of her argument were contained in a memorandum filed this week.
