President Trump is without question a white supremacist, filmmaker Spike Lee argued during a television interview Tuesday.
The “Do the Right Thing” and “BlacKkKlansman” director made the remark about Mr. Trump while speaking with CNN host Anderson Cooper.
“Respectfully, why are we still asking is this guy a white supremacist? It’s not even a question anymore,” Mr. Lee, 62, said during an appearance on “Anderson Cooper 360.”
“I mean, the Muslim ban, all Mexicans are rapists, murderers and drug dealers,” he continued, referring to Mr. Trump’s proposed ban on Muslim migrants and one of his more contentious comments opposing illegal immigration.
Mr. Lee also recalled the president’s reaction to deadly 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where Mr. Trump claimed that “both sides” were to blame for the violence that culminated in the death of a counterprotester who was murdered while demonstrating against white supremacists.
“He’s going to be on the wrong side of history and that’s going to be the first thing they say. That quote,” said the director.
Asked if he thinks Mr. Trump will win a second term as president, Mr. Lee responded: “Can I get on my knees now and pray?”
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.
