LAS VEGAS (AP) - The union representing teachers in Las Vegas says teachers might walk out of classrooms next month if a new contract isn’t reach.
The Clark County Education Association announced Tuesday that teachers could go on strike on Sept. 10 if the Clark County School District doesn’t change its offer by Friday.
The union is seeking pay raises for teachers who have met continuing education requirements.
The union says about 2,000 teachers qualify for that raise, costing $15 million to $20 million.
It also wants to the district to address the freeze on step salary increases and employee contributions to the public retirement system.
The fifth-largest school district in the country did not get all the funding it requested from the state Legislature this year.
