BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man charged with being part of a group of people who attacked a jail guard as he arrived for work has been held without bail.
Torre Jenkins was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and attempted larceny of a motor vehicle in connection with the attack Thursday on an out-of-uniform corrections officer outside the Suffolk County House of Corrections.
Authorities believe the motive was robbery.
The 45-year-old Jenkins told the judge he was just trying to move the car from a crowded street.
The attack took place on Boston’s “Methadone Mile,” where the homeless and addicted gather.
Suffolk Sheriff Steven Tompkins called for an emergency meeting with Mayor Marty Walsh, Police Commissioner William Gross and District Attorney Rachael Rollins to address ongoing problems in the area.
