WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Delaware fire marshal has retired after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports Wilmington Fire Marshal James Jobes retired Tuesday, less than a month after his arrest and subsequent suspension.
The 53-year-old was pulled over last month for driving 28 mph (45. kph) over the 55 mph (88.5 kph) speed limit. State police say Jobes then failed a sobriety test, admitted to “drinking a few beers” and had a blood-alcohol level double the legal driving limit.
City data says he had an annual salary of $102,513 and was hired in 1993, making him eligible for a city pension that’s at least half his salary. Jobes previously has declined to comment on the case. He’s set to appear in court Sept. 5.
