CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - As expected, Republican Gov. Chris Sununu has vetoed another controversial bill related to voting rights.
The Democratically-controlled Legislature passed two bills this session to essentially negate a new law ending the state’s distinction between domicile and residency for voting purposes. The change, passed under Republican control and currently being challenged in court, means out-of-state college students who vote in New Hampshire would also be subject to residency requirements, such as getting New Hampshire driver’s licenses or registering their cars.
Sununu last month vetoed a House bill that would have repealed the new law. On Friday, he vetoed a Senate bill that would have created a carve-out from the motor vehicle requirements for students and other temporary residents.
