CHICAGO (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against five teenagers allegedly involved in an attempted vehicle theft in suburban Chicago that left a sixth teenager dead.
Authorities say suspects allegedly involved in the incident early Tuesday in Old Mill Creek led police on a 50-mile chase to Chicago after a man fatally shot one of them outside his home.
Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Chris Covelli says a 14-year-old boy was shot by the 75-year-old owner of a vehicle allegedly targeted by the teens. He says the suspects drove to the scene of an accident and asked police to help the teen who’d been shot.
Covelli says the juvenile died at the scene and an accomplice who stayed with him was arrested. The other four drove away, with police in pursuit. They were captured in Chicago.
Authorities say a 16-year-old male, three 17-year-old males, and an 18-year-old woman, identified as Diamond Davis of Chicago, were charged with first-degree murder because the unidentified 14-year-old died of wounds sustained during the commission of a forcible felony.
