HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A state loan agency has awarded 177 scholarships to students attending college in Connecticut.
The Connecticut Higher Education Supplemental Loan Authority recently announced the awards to students from 69 towns who are attending 20 of the 34 public and nonprofit universities in the state.
More than $500,000 in scholarships were given to the students for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The quasi-public agency has awarded scholarships to 4,400 Connecticut students to date.
Full-time college students meeting certain financial requirements and having at least a 2.5 grade point average can receive scholarships of up to $3,000.
State Treasurer Shawn Wooden says the students are helping to grow the state economy and workforce by attending college in Connecticut.
