Rep. Will Hurd of Texas, the lone black Republican in the House, announced his retirement Thursday night.
“I have made the decision to not seek reelection for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in order to pursue opportunities outside the halls of Congress to solve problems at the nexus between technology and national security,” Mr. Hurd said in a statement.
The three-term lawmaker has often clashed with President Trump and was one of only four House Republicans to vote for a resolution last month condemning the president for “racist” comments aimed at four female House Democrats. Mr. Trump had urged the women to “go back” to their countries of origin, although three of them were born in the U.S. and all four are American citizens.
Mr. Hurd, 41, is the ninth Republican incumbent to announce retirement in this election cycle.
He narrowly won reelection last year in the district that covers a large swath of Texas between San Antonio and El Paso.
