PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Devin and Jason McCourty, the first twins to play on the same team in a Super Bowl, will give the commencement speech to Rutgers University graduates next month.
The university announced Tuesday that the pair will speak at the commencement ceremony at HighPoint.com Stadium on May 19 and will receive honorary doctorate of humane letters degrees.
Devin, a safety, and Jason, a cornerback, played key roles in the New England Patriots’ 13-3 Super Bowl win over the Los Angeles Rams in February.
Both McCourtys have been active in efforts to raise awareness about sickle-cell anemia and have participated in numerous other philanthropic activities including visiting schools and children’s hospitals, volunteering at community centers, supporting disaster relief aid and promoting food drives, according to the university.
In a statement emailed by the university, Jason McCourty called the honor “humbling” and said the brothers “hope to deliver a message that will inspire the Class of 2019 to chase their own vision of success.”
Jason McCourty graduated from Rutgers in 2009 and spent his first nine seasons with Tennessee and Cleveland. Devin McCourty graduated in 2010 and has played for the Patriots since being drafted by Bill Belichick.
