GRAYSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - State authorities have seized more than 1,000 electronic bingo machines from several operations in Jefferson County.

Attorney General Steve Marshall said Tuesday that his office conducted search warrants at four bingo halls in Brighton and Graysville. Authorities seized 1,100 machines and an undisclosed amount of cash.

His office says several people were arrested and charged with operating illegal gambling devices but did not name them.

Marshall has previously said that state law is “crystal clear” that slot machines and electronic bingo machines are illegal.

Marshall says his office stepped in because local authorities had not taken action.
