Meghan McCain blasted President Trump Tuesday for offering support for prisoners of war following his lengthy feud with her late father John McCain, who was a POW during the Vietnam war for five and a half years.
“No one believes you care about prisoners of war and ’people who get captured,’” she tweeted in response to Mr. Trump acknowledging a day for former prisoners of war and wishing to “honor the Americans captured and imprisoned by foreign powers while carrying out their duties to defend this great Nation.”
Mr. Trump famously feuded with her father while campaigning for president, saying in 2015 that McCain was “not a war hero.”
“He was a war hero because he was captured,” Mr. Trump said. “I like people who weren’t captured.”
In March, Mr. Trump again voiced his displeasure with McCain months after his August death, accusing the late Arizona senator of “spreading the fake and totally discredited [Steele] dossier” and blasting him for preventing Republicans from repealing Obamacare in 2017.
