Former Secretary of State John Kerry praised Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Tuesday for offering ’more leadership in one day’ than President Trump with her climate change bill, the Green New Deal.

“We all have some difference of one piece of legislation or another but in proposing what she has proposed, along with Sen. Markey, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has, in fact, offered more leadership in one day or in one week than President Trump has in his lifetime on this subject,” Mr. Kerry said.

He also scrutinized Republican inaction on addressing climate change.

“There are a lot of different proposals about how to proceed, I don’t know that any of them are coming from your party,” Mr. Kerry told Rep. James Comer, a Kentucky Republican.

Mr. Kerry made his remarks during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on how to tackle climate change and national security, where many GOPers used their opening statements to criticize Ms. Ocasio Cortez’s legislation.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted she was “honored and humbled” by Mr. Kerry’s remarks.

The representative submitted the Green New Deal legislation, which outlined a sweeping overhaul of the economy and energy sector with ambitious social-justice goals.

The bill passed the House but was killed in the Senate, with many Democrats voting “present.”
