PLANTATION, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is making his first business development trip to Israel.

DeSantis, who took office in January, announced Tuesday that he’ll lead a delegation of business, political and academic leaders to the Jewish state from May 25-31, with stops in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. He says the trip shows his commitment to being the most pro-Israel governor in the U.S.

DeSantis and members of the Florida Cabinet plan to meet at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.

The governor’s office says the trip is meant to strengthen economic bonds between Israel and Florida, as well as connect academic institutions to help facilitate scientific solutions for Florida’s environmental challenges.

DeSantis also announced Tuesday that he will be the keynote speaker at the 2019 Israel-American business summit, hosted by the federation of Israeli chambers of commerce and the U.S. Embassy in Israel.
