SEATTLE (AP) - More than 50 people have indicated they might run for a seat on the Seattle City Council this year, likely setting up the race to be the city’s most crowded.
The Seattle Times reported Monday that all seven district seats on the nine-member council are up for grabs this year and only three incumbents are running again.
The field of possible candidates includes a doctor, a prosecutor, a public defender, a police officer, a massage therapist, a marijuana seller and a line cook.
The number of candidates could grow or shrink before the May filing deadline. Only two candidates in each district will advance from the Aug. 6 primary.
According to King County records, the primary ballot in 2015 had 47 candidates - the most in the last 50 years.
