Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney on Sunday said no one at the White House has made a request to see special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report on Russian interference in the 2016 election before it goes to Congress and says the president is deferring to Attorney General William Barr on the matter.
“No - again, Mr. Barr is going to make those decisions,” Mr. Mulvaney said on “Fox News Sunday.” “I think the president’s been very consistent - Mr. Barr is going to make those decisions, and I’m comfortable with that.”
Mr. Trump said on Saturday that he has not read the Mueller report yet, but said he has “every right to do so.”
“Only know the conclusions, and on the big one, No Collusion,” the president said on Twitter. “Likewise, recommendations made to our great A.G. who found No Obstruction.”
Mr. Barr recently released a four-page summary of the voluminous report that said Mr. Mueller did not establish that anyone with Mr. Trump’s campaign conspired or colluded with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 election.
He also said Mr. Mueller didn’t come to a definitive conclusion on whether the president obstructed justice after he was in office in attempting to curtail the probe, but that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded that the evidence wouldn’t be enough to establish that Mr. Trump did obstruct justice.
Democrats have been pushing for a full release of the report, and the House Judiciary Committee voted last week to give Chairman Jerrold Nadler, New York Democrat, the power to subpoena the full report.
Mr. Mulvaney said nothing will ever be enough.
“Keep in mind: if we give the Democrats all 400 pages un-redacted, that’s not going to be the end of the inquiry,” he said. “Then they’re going to want another thousand pages that went into making that. Then they’re going to want to talk to the witnesses themselves.”
“This is not about getting to the truth. It’s not about the facts. This is a political show by the Democrats,” he said.
