YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan at a rally in Ohio says he will bring Democrats, Republicans and independents together to fix the country’s problems when he’s elected president in 2020.

The Ohio congressman on Thursday joined a crowded field of Democratic candidates vying for the White House.

Ryan did not mention any of his Democratic rivals or President Donald Trump during a 20-minute speech Saturday in Youngstown, the center of a region struggling economically. The latest blow was the March closing of a General Motors assembly plant in nearby Lordstown and the loss of 1,700 hourly jobs.

He said the country’s problem is people work hard and play by the rules but “just can’t get ahead.”

Ryan said fixing education and health care will allow ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
