SEATTLE (AP) - The widow of a 66-year-old Chinese immigrant has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit, claiming two Issaquah police officers used excessive force and wrongfully caused her husband’s death.

The Seattle Times reports the suit filed this week by Liping Yang claims police forced their way into the couple’s apartment in August and roughly handled Wangsheng Leng, breaking his neck. He died Sept. 5.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Leng’s death a homicide as a result of a spinal-cord injury. The King County Sheriff’s Office is nearly finished with an investigation into the officers’ use of force.

The city of Issaquah said on its website that their sympathies are with Leng’s family, that police responded as required to what was a domestic violence call and upon discovering Leng had medical concerns summoned medical assistance.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages, policy changes and new training to prevent similar incidents.
