MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A University of Montana official says the umbrella organization for sororities is pushing back against a change at the institution that requires chapters to report sexual assaults to the campus.
The Missoulian reported on Thursday that a new provision requires chapters to report significant incidents, including violent or sexual assaults, to the university’s fraternity and sorority office within 24 hours.
The provision is part of amendments to the university’s contract with fraternities and sororities that outlines chapters’ responsibilities in order to be recognized student groups at the university.
University Center Director Adrianne Donald says the Interfraternity Council, which governs fraternities, has approved the new agreement, but the National Panhellenic Council has concerns about the new requirement.
The council did not respond to requests from the Missoulian for comment via voicemail and email Thursday.
