NEW BERN, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina sheriff says deputies helped seize around 70 dogs from a home in an animal neglect investigation.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that at least 66 dogs were seized. The sheriff’s office said charges are pending.
Photos posted to the sheriff’s office Facebook page show deputies and animal control personnel carrying out dogs from a home, at least one of which appeared to be a puppy.
Animal Control Officer Christian Smith told the New Bern Sun Journal that she had tried to contact the owners multiple times before the raid but that they were uncooperative. Smith said there were issues with rabies vaccinations.
The newspaper reports that there was animal waste throughout the house and officers wore masks and rubber gloves.
