Former Vice President Joseph Biden said Friday he is “very close” to deciding whether he will run in the 2020 election, hinting he intends to be the “last person to announce.”

“I am very close to making the decision… Even if I knew for certain I was going to run for president… my intention from the beginning if I were to run would be the last person to announce… Give everybody else their day, then I get a shot, then off to the races,” the Delaware Democrat said to a pool of reporters.

Mr. Biden has been polling as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for president despite not having officially entered the race.

He came under fire over the weekend for misconduct allegations, including inappropriate displays of affection, to which he responded in a video released Wednesday on Twitter by promising to be respectful of other people’s personal space.

Mr. Biden, however, was criticized again Friday for making light of the accusations against him when he said during a speech at a labor union conference that he “had permission to hug” his presenter. He would repeat the same joke to a child he hugged on stage.
