Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said Friday President Trump lies “because it’s fun.”

“He’s very consistent. He’s probably consistent over the last 40 years in terms of how he frames a narrative and a story…He does it because he thinks it’s fun….at the end of the day, for him, there’s a very large group of people inside our population that when he does it and the media talks about it they laugh,” Mr. Scaramucci told CNN.

Mr. Scaramucci added he does not like the lying, saying he tells the president “you don’t need to do that” with his “great job” on the economy and NATO discussions.

He also said Mr. Trump is no different than other politicians, saying voters believe “when a politician opens his mouth, they’re lying.”

Mr. Trump has come under fire recently for saying his father was born in Germany — he was born in the Bronx — and for saying windmill noise causes cancer, neither of which is true.

Mr. Scaramucci served as Mr. Trump’s White House communications director for 11 days before being fired.
