Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocked President Trump Wednesday for saying his audit would prevent him from following through with the House Ways and Means Committee’s request for six years of his tax returns.

“Congress: ’We’re going to need a copy of the President’s tax returns from 2013-2018,’ ” the New York Democrat tweeted.

“No, I’m ’under audit,” she wrote, recreating Mr. Trump’s reply.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez followed by writing, “We didn’t ask you,” adding two emojis.

When asked about the request, the president said he’s “always under audit it seems” and added, “until such time as I’m not under audit, I would not be inclined to do that.”

he House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal of Massachusetts asked the IRS Wednesday to release six years of Mr. Trump’s tax returns.

The letter read, “Under the Internal Revenue Manual, individual income tax returns of a president are subject to mandatory examination, but this practice is IRS policy and not codified in the federal tax laws.”
