BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The U.S. Labor Department says a Burlington, Vermont, restaurateur is paying more than $100,000 for not paying employees overtime rates.

The Labor Department said Monday in a news release that it found that The Spot LLC, operator The Spot and Spot on the Dock restaurants, paid employees straight time when they worked more than 40 hours a week.

It was also accused of employing three 15-year-old workers who worked past times and the amount allowed on certain days.

The department says the owner has paid $55,000 in back wages and an equal amount in damages to 91 current and former employees.

Owner Russ Scully says his corporation was unaware of the federal rules, made a mistake and was not trying to do anything malicious.

WCAX-TV first reported on the violations.
