PHOENIX (AP) - With visitors flocking to warm-weather Arizona for baseball spring training and spring break, it’s no surprise that Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in March set a record for its busiest month ever.

Sky Harbor officials say 4.5 million passengers passed through the airport in March, 3.3 percent over the March 2018 previous record.

Sky Harbor in 2018 broke its yearly record with nearly 45 million passengers traveling through the airport, up from 44 million in 2015.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said the passenger figures show the strong demand for travel to and from Phoenix and that renovation and construction projects will help accommodate additional traffic.

Current projects include renovating Terminal 3, adding an eight-gate concourse in Terminal 4 and extending the Sky Train service to the rental car center.
