TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man who was shot at by a security guard last year in the parking lot of a state social-welfare office in Tucson has filed a lawsuit.
KOLD-TV reports Esteban Acosta is seeking punitive and compensatory damages for pain and suffering, anxiety and loss of employment.
Acosta was an Arizona Department of Economic Security client who reportedly caused a disturbance in March 2018 before being escorted out of the Tucson building by security guard Mahmood Al-Muwali.
Tucson police say Al-Muwali fired a gun as Acosta was driving away. Acosta wasn’t injured.
Al-Muwali was charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm within city limits. He was convicted of a misdemeanor.
The state of Arizona, the 31-year-old security guard and his employer are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
