CLAIRTON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man found shot to death was the former quarterback of a record-setting high school football team.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 23-year-old Armani Ford of Clairton was found Friday evening in a Clairton backyard. The medical examiner said he bled to death. His death was ruled a homicide. County police are investigating.

Ford finished his high school career in 2013 with 2,000 passing yards as Clairton amassed a 63-game winning streak, winning four consecutive PIAA Class A championships and five straight WPIAL titles.

Mayor Rich Lattanzi, who coached Ford’s elementary school basketball team, remembered him as “a good kid.” He told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that for many ex-athletes or other kids, “if it doesn’t work out for football, there’s not jobs.”
