PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence’s mayor is delivering his budget proposal for the next fiscal year.

Democratic Mayor Jorge Elorza will formally present his proposal for fiscal year 2020 at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. He’ll address the Providence City Council, state leaders and community members in the City Council chambers.

Elorza’s office says his address will cover priority areas such as youth and education, with a focus on early childhood learning, student health and summer occupational and learning opportunities.

He’ll also discuss the city’s finances and services, access to affordable housing and investments to create economic opportunity and strengthen local communities.

Last year, Elorza unveiled a $745 million proposal, or a 1.1% increase. It had no tax increases and no raise for city teachers. Teachers protested when Elorza presented the budget to the City Council.
