PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Latest on Pittsburgh’s reaction to the deadly synagogue shooting in California (all times local):
9:40 p.m.
Residents of Pittsburgh have gathered at the Tree of Life synagogue for a vigil in the wake of the deadly synagogue shooting in California.
Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto on Saturday evening tweeted a picture of the gathering of over 100 people in a steady rain.
It was accompanied by text that read: “We gather. Again. Always. Until we drive hate speech & acts of hate out of our city, our state, our nation, our world.”
The Tree of Life was six months ago the site of the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history. Eleven people were killed.
It released a statement saying “We know first-hand the fear, anguish and healing process such an atrocity causes, and our hearts are with the afflicted San Diego families and their congregation.”
Authorities say a young man armed with a rifle opened fire inside Chabad of Poway near San Diego on Saturday, the last day of Passover. A woman was killed and three other people were wounded.

The Pittsburgh synagogue that six months ago was the site of the deadliest U.S. attack on Jews is offering its sympathy to the Chabad of Poway synagogue near San Diego.
The Tree of Life synagogue released a statement Saturday that says “we are heartbroken - and appalled and outraged - by the news of the attack. … This must stop.”
The statement says “We know first-hand the fear, anguish and healing process such an atrocity causes, and our hearts are with the afflicted San Diego families and their congregation.”

Officials hearing of the synagogue shooting in California are offering sympathy from the city that six months ago was the site of the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history.
Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said Saturday that “we understand this heartache all too well.”
He says that “our thoughts are with those in the San Diego area, and our actions locally are and will continue to be focused on keeping everyone safe.”
