MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Republican Gov. Phil Scott is encouraging Vermonters to discard of their unused and unwanted prescription drugs at collection sites during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The event is happening Saturday at police and sheriffs’ departments and pharmacies around Vermont.
Scott says unused prescriptions add to the devastating impact of the state’s opioid crisis. He says discarding medications at these sites ensures that they won’t be misused or taken accidentally and prevents harm to waterways and wildlife when drugs are flushed or thrown away. At last year’s event, Vermonters got rid of more than 6,000 pounds of medication.
Collection sites can be found online at takebackday.dea.gov.
