ASHBURN — The Washington Redskins drafted another wide receiver in this year’s NFL draft, adding North Carolina State wideout Kelvin Harmon in the sixth round.
Washington used a third-round pick on Ohio State’s Terry McLaurin on Friday. Washington needed to address the position as the team had one of the least productive wide receiver corps in the NFL last season. Josh Doctson led the unit with only 532 yards.
Harmon has considerable size for the position at 6-foot-2. In 2018, Harmon caught 81 passes for 1,186 and seven touchdowns. NFL.com lists Harmon as having “big dog swagger,” a label the wide receiver agreed with.
“It’s that alpha mentality, always competing hard,” Harmon said. “Whether I’m blocking or catching, it’s just always hard and I just wanted to get the ball away from my opponent.”
Harmon, who was born in Liberia before moving the U.S. as an early child, said his best attribute is his ability to catch the ball “no matter where it’s at.” He added his blocking ability is “pretty great, too.”
Harmon said he had an informal meeting with the Redskins at the combine and talked with them at his pro day.
“I’m ready to go to work,” Harmon said.
