T.J. Oshie, speaking to reporters for the first time since breaking his clavicle in Game 4 of the Washington Capitals’ first-round playoff series, said he planned to rejoin his teammates on the ice if they made a deep enough playoff run.
“I don’t know what the doctors’ plans were, but my plans were that I was going to be playing if the boys went far,” Oshie said Friday.
Oshie, who has a long injury history in his NHL career, joked that the team doctors “know how excited I get to try to beat recovery times, so they didn’t give me one.”
“It’s not like a separated shoulder or something that really takes a lot of rehabbing,” he said. “It’s just the bone and plate have to heal and I’ll be good to go and have a nice full summer of workouts.”
Oshie also expressed gratitude to Capitals fans who chanted his name during the playoff series after he was sidelined.
“Honestly, I kind of blacked out when everyone was cheering there,” he said. “It was pretty cool. And then we almost scored a minute later, which would have been pretty exciting. The fans have given me so much support, not just right now and obviously after going into the boards funny, but since I’ve been here.”
