SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Officials say a computer glitch is keeping more than 18,000 public school students in Utah from completing year-end testing.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Utah Board of Education announced the problem Friday for students in third through eighth grade who are taking the assessment testing.
The standardized tests are being run by vendor Questar Assessment Inc. for the first time this year under a $30 million contract with the state.
The exams assess students on language, science and math. They are required under federal standards, although parents can decided against having their children take the tests under state law.
Officials also use the tests to determine funding for schools, which ones are struggling and which they might consider closing down as a result.
Students who have yet to take the exam will not be affected by the glitch.
