COTTONWOOD, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say someone damaged a southwestern Minnesota pipeline that leaked thousands of gallons of diesel fuel.
The Star Tribune reports the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect they believe is responsible for the incident that happened Wednesday night near Cottonwood.
A statement Thursday from the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said the fuel escaped from “a small hole” in the Magellan Midstream pipeline, which is 8 inches in diameter.
Some of the oil made its way into a drainage ditch that ultimately flows into the Yellow Medicine River. The company says it has made “significant progress recovering a high percentage” of that fuel.
