TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has tapped an agency veteran to lead the state authority overseeing certain school construction projects.

The Democrat said Friday he was naming Manuel Da Silva to succeed Lizette Delgado-Polanco as acting CEO of the Schools Development Authority.

Delgado-Polanco is resigning after reports in The Record newspaper that she hired relatives and unqualified people at the agency. She was facing pressure to leave from lawmakers. She announced her departure earlier this week.

The authority has said the new employees were hired because they had the necessary skills.

Da Silva has served as vice president of construction operations at the agency since 2017. He started there in 2010 in the engineering section.

The agency oversees construction projects in 31 of the state’s poorest school districts.
